Simeulu Exotic Locations

LOCATION
Simeulue is situated off Sumatra's West coast, just north of the equator. Large ocean swells generated by storms off Antarctica travel across the Indian Ocean and break on the many reefs surrounding the resort. The Island has an abundance of beautiful beaches to relax on and explore.

GENERAL INFO
This relaxing jungle retreat is right on the beach in a picturesque bay. The complex is a large "A-Frame" double storey open-plan house spaciously designed with high ceilings and large screened windows to keep the house cool and comfortable. The natural hardwood interior is furnished with Rotan and bamboo furniture and finished off in natural local woodwork.

The complex features Western-style bathrooms, toilets and has a spacious well-equipped kitchen to allow our chef to create the finest food on the island. We accommodate six guests dormitory style on the top level, and have three private double rooms on the lower level for couples.

TV and DVD viewing is available and we offer Internet access.

The menu is based on a high energy diet to give you strength for the day's activities. We prepare plenty of seafood dishes using traditional Indonesian and Thai methods. We also prepare tasty vegetarian dishes, using organic produce.

The resort is equipped with a 20-ft speedboat moored in the bay just a few metres away. The closest wave is a three-minute boat ride away while other, more distant spots are also accessed by boat.

Depending on conditions, surfers may choose to load their boards onto the Kijang and drive along the palm-fringed coast to access a variety of beach and reef-breaks.

FACILITIES
We only take six surfers at a time, so our spacious house has plenty of room. Our western style bathroom has hot showers. After a full day of surfing or fishing, you can relax on our comfy lounges, listen to a CD or watch a DVD movie or check out international news on cable TV. You can also keep in touch with family via telephone or Internet. We have laundry facilities, so there is no need to bring loads of clothes.

GETTING THERE
Getting there is the easy part, no long boat or bus rides. Medan, the capital of Sumatra, is the gateway to Simeulue. There are daily direct flights to the island and the flight takes sixty minutes. You can fly to Medan with Singapore Airlines direct from Singapore, Air Asia or Malaysian Airlines from Kuala Lumpur or Garuda Indonesia via Jakarta. All airlines fly daily and directly to Medan. Several budget airlines such as Tiger and Jet Star Asia fly to Medan as well. You will most likely fly Merpati airlines, which offers three return flights per week to Simeulue. We also make use of Susi Air, a charter airline.
